Physical spaces, as envisioned and created by designers, often convey a unique sense of place and purpose — think of the experience one has in a hospital, university, or office building. These spaces are immersive by nature, but they are also often impersonal and separate from us; we have experiences in these environments. With iBeacon, we can have experiences with places and, by extension, the institutions they represent.

iBeacon allows apps on your iPhone to perform micro-location indoors. That is, iBeacon creates short-range proximity awareness, enhancing the ability of users to interact directly with environments. iBeacon can not only enhance our experience of the spaces we inhabit, it can also fundamentally alter our relationship with the institution that owns those spaces. The educational experience is influenced greatly by the facilities in which they occur, and this presentation will explore the potential for iBeacon to enhance the educational experience.

What You'll Learn:

  • What iBeacon is and how it works
  • How iBeacon can enhance the user journey for students, teachers and administrators
  • Practical applications of iBeacon
